Solar energy is free energy. This source of free heat will not only save you money, but you'll be playing your part in reducing greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere — up to 4.5 tonnes per annum. Now is as good a time as any to change to a free energy source and in doing so help to make the world a cleaner place.

As an energy-efficient means of generating hot-running water all year round, the New Zealand made SolaH20 system raises the standard for solar-powered water heaters. New to the market in September 2007, the SolaH20 unit fits on all roofs with the added benefit of a split system. SolaH20 has been specifically designed to accommodate a 3 to 4 bedroom dwelling and its occupants.

Manufactured with retro-fit installations in mind, SolaH20 features colour-coded exteriors that blend with any roof-line. State-of-the-art evacuated tube technology ensures optimum usage of the sun's energy. The unit requires little or no maintenance and is constructed to strict specifications to meet all relevant building standards. The tank is constructed of 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel with a 300 litre capacity. The overall size of the system measures 2,840 mm width by 2,510 mm height for tank and tubes.

The design of the SolaH2O unit features a specific truss feature that evenly spreads the unit’s weight of 420 kg’s over three roof truss placements. This type of installation may be necessary to comply with local council building requirements. These features are visible in detail via supporting diagrams at right—the thumbnail images are linked to full-scale PDF plan renderings and are available to download. SolaH20 has been designed for ease of installation, including the capability to retro-fit the unit on most roof types. As an added convenience, the unit can be placed in close proximity to an existing solid-fuel wood fire to enable greater efficiency and productivity from an existing wetback system. Alternatively, the unit can be combined with a gas califront for the economical supply of continuous hot water all year round.

For correct installation of the SolarH20 unit, builders need to be aware of issues involving the unit weight, the minimum height for roof installation and tank measurements. The unit's weight must be added to applied loads by the truss manufacturer. Placement of the tank is required prior to the contracted plumber being on site and before the dwelling is closed in.

The SolaH20 system must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local electrical codes. A registration number is necessary for the producer statement prior to compliance.

Only to be installed by a craftsman plumber or certified solar installer, the SolaH20 system incorporates an easy-fit plumbing solution that is installed in just a few hours. The simplicity of design encourages brisk water flow that is always constant, reliable and quickly transported to various localities within the house.

In addition to benefits that encompass smaller power bills, greater household energy efficiency and environmental awareness, the purchase of a SolaH20 unit is backed up by a seven year  warranty and knowledge that the company has a decade of experience within the solar industry. The proud owner of a SolarH20 system can look forward to a maintenance-free, uninterrupted flow of hot-running water for many years to come.

The SolaH2O 300L system retails for $4,995 (includes GST). Or alternately, the SolaH2O 300LW (designed for wetback use) retails for $5,500 (includes GST).

For easier installation the following add-on kits are also available for the SolaH2O system:

The 300L Roof Penetration Kit (valves and pipework) features a cold water expansion valve; a pressure relief valve; an isolation valve; Dektite flashing x2; pipe insulation; plus copper piping and fixed bends for a total purchase price of $1,295 (includes GST).

The 300 LW Roof Penetration Kit (again with valves and pipework but this time for wetback use) features a maxiflow pressure limiting valve; an isolation valve; a pressure relief valve; a tempering valve; pipe insulation; a cold water expansion valve; Dektite flashing x4; a mains pressure limiting valve with fitter; plus copper piping and fixed bends for a total purchase price of $1,495 (includes GST).

The SolaH2O 300L or 300LW Tank Roof System comes with a five year tank and tube warranty dependent on the unit being installed in a single family domestic dwelling with a thermostat setting at 75 degrees or less at the discretion of SolaH2O and under conditions of normal wear and tear. In addition, buyers receive a 12 month element warranty against electrical faults caused by the element. the SolaH2O warranty does not, however, cover the installer’s work and labour content.

Of the downloads available from SolaH2O, the first is a DigiBook or E-Brochure that offers a comprehensive, 20 page tour of the product, whilst the other download is an introduction to SolaH2O via a TV commercial.
